~ Jennifer Kohms will create tourism development projects and foster collaboration among tourism stakeholders ~
Newport News, VA, Aug. 22, 2024 – Newport News Tourism is excited to welcome Jennifer Kohms as a Tourism Development Coordinator, responsible for spearheading innovative programs aimed at boosting tourism and increasing revenue for the City of Newport News.
Kohms will work closely with key Newport News stakeholders – to include attractions, hotels, restaurants, retail establishments, and city departments – to develop campaigns and partnerships that enhance group sales efforts. Additionally, she will represent Visit Newport News on various committees and associations, while also exploring grant opportunities to support tourism growth and development.
Kohms brings a rich background in sales and hospitality to her new role, with extensive experience in event management. Most recently, she served as the Special Events Manager at the Chrysler Museum. Before that, she was the Weddings and Events Manager at the Hermitage Museum, where she successfully administered private events.
Her career also includes a successful four-year stint as the Rental Sales Coordinator at The Mariners’ Museum and Park, overseeing more than 100 events annually. Kohms’ diverse background includes roles as Development Coordinator at Historic St. Luke’s Church and as Marketing and Special Events Coordinator at Wharf Hill Brewing. She also spent nine years at the Daily Press, gaining valuable experience in administrative work and public relations.
Kohms holds a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in business administration from Stetson University in DeLand, FL. A resident of Smithfield, Kohms served on Christopher Newport University’s Writers Conference Advisory Board from 2015 to 2017 and has volunteered with Smithfield VA Events since 2016.
