Every March, Newport News transforms into a runner’s paradise as the One City Marathon takes over the city. Whether you’re a seasoned marathoner, a casual runner, or just love the race-day excitement, this is an event you won’t want to miss!

A Race That Unites the City

The One City Marathon was created to bring the Newport News community together while showcasing the city’s unique geography. First held in 2015, the 26.2-mile race takes runners on a scenic journey through historic sites, museums, public art, and waterfront views. The point-to-point course starts at Newport News Park and finishes downtown, offering an unforgettable racing experience.

Multiple Races for All Experience Levels

No matter your running ability, there’s a race for you:

  • One City Marathon (26.2 miles) – The ultimate endurance challenge.

Special Guest: National Black Marathoners Association

This year, Newport News is honored to welcome the National Black Marathoners Association (NBMA) for its annual Summit. As the largest and oldest non-profit organization for Black American distance runners, NBMA brings together hundreds of runners from across the nation. This adds an extra layer of excitement and community to the event!

Saturday Celebration at Tradition Brewing Co.

Sunday’s One City Celebration in the Yard District
